STEVE IRWIN, "THE CROCODILE HUNTER, died on September 4th, 2006, at a young age of 44!
While filming an underwater wildlife documentary, he was stabbed in the heart by a stingray. His death was called "An Accident",, but those who watched his films, with Steve in action, with wild animals, it seems he was tempting fate, and that an "Accident", was just waiting to happen, agree?
Yes he became very popular due to the things he did with very dangerous animals, who operate on instinct alone, not knowing he had only their best in mind! Steve didn't just film them, he would get really close, and actually handle them, in order to get "Better footage" for his viewers.
Ignoring or defying the laws of nature made Steve Irwin one of the most watched figures on world-wide television. Millions watched all over earth, to see him handle life forms able to kill him. Even though the laws of nature, that tells us to stay away from these dangerous creatures, eventually the odds caught up to him, and caused his death!
In many ways, the Bible is like nature. In the same way that nature has laws and consequences for breaking those laws. In this lesson you will learn or re-learn, what the Holy Bible says about God' s Commandments. You will also find out how important they are to God, and whether He wants us to keep them or not! Let's begin lesson 6 in this series.
1. DOES GOD HAVE LAWS THAT HE WANT US TO KEEP?
Revelation 14:12. "Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus." Deuteronomy 4:13."And he declared unto you his covenant, which he commanded you to perform, even ten commandments; and he wrote them upon two tables of stone."
Note: The Bible says that the SAINTS are the people who KEEP the commandments of God. He commanded His people to perform TEN Commandments and He WROTE them on two tablets of STONE, with HIS OWN FINGER. For eternal permanence, and they are the ONLY words in all the Bible so written!
2. ARE THERE CONSEQUENCES FOR BREAKING ANY ONE OF THESE LAWS OF GOD?
Romans 6:23. "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." 1 John 3:4. "Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law."
Note: Man's laws, many 1,000's of them, says ignorance of the law is no excuse , nor a defense. God's Judgments are based upon the amount of truth /light each has received, none will be held to account to laws they know nothing about! However once exposed to His truth, one is held to account, as we have a mind, and the freedom to think and choose.
3 DOES OUR SOCIETY HAVE A PROBLEM KEEPING GOD' S LAWS?
2 Timothy 3:1-5. "This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection,[no love for others] trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent,{no self- control] fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away."
Note: As this was written right at 2,000 years ago, by the inspiration of God, look around you and ask, "Did our Creator know this was coming?" YES!! Here you read that HE predicted that in these Latter Days, Perilous times shall come! People shall be sinning more and more, as people become more and more filled with self pride , more disobedient to both God's and man's laws, all because of sin, becoming a greater part of the lives of most.
4. CAN GOD' S LAWS, EVER BE CHANGED?
Malachi 3:6. "For I am the LORD, I change not; ...." Psalms 111:7-8. "The works of his hands are verity and judgment; all his commandments are sure. They stand fast for ever and ever, and are done in truth and uprightness."
Note: God says I am the Lord, I change not. All His commandments stand sure and last forever. Look carefully at each one of God's commandments {Exodus 20: 1:17} Why would anyone of them needed to be changed? There is nothing wrong with them as they are, therefore in no need to change!
WHY?
God's 10 Commandments are a reflection of HIS Character, and no man could change either one!
5. But...but weren't they for the Old Testament times?
Note: This from the last chapter in the last book of the bible and YOU tell me!
Revelation 22:14. "Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city."
Note: What are they that obey? BLESSED with what? The right to eat from the Tree of Life, which is in HEAVEN's Holy City.
READ WHAT EACH OF THE 8 WROTE AS THE HOLY SPIRIT MOVED THEM!
Matthew 19:17 "And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments." CHRIST SPOKE THIS.
Mark 10:18-19 . "And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God. Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honor thy father and mother."
Luke 16:17 . "And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one tittle of the law to fail."
1 John 5:2-3 . "By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous."
PAUL...Romans 2:13. "(For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified."
James 2:10. "For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all." James 2:20-21. "But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?"
6. BUT, DID NOT JESUS DO AWAY THE COMMANDMENTS?
Matthew 5:17. "Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill." John 15:10. "If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love."
7. But is not law keeping part of the Old Testament?
Hebrews 8:10. "For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:"
Note: Yes, the Bible does say that God is making a new covenant, but the "New" is the same as the old, but the "New" God will write into our hearts/minds of HIS people., those who love Him and want to obey Him.
8. Doesn't the Bible say that Grace does away with the law?
Romans 6:14. "For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace."
Romans 6:18"Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness."
Note: We all, are under the law or under Grace. Those who willfully break God's law are under the penalty of the law. But those who accept and believe upon Christ are under grace, BECAUSE, He took their penalty for them! Does that mean we can live like the devil and still expect to be under Grace? NO! God forbid! In other words, of course sinning because we're under grace? Of course not, once we are made free from sin, we become servant of righteousness, because we know and thus love HIM!
Ephesians 2:8. "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:" Romans 6:18. "Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness."
Note:: GRACE is unmerited favor. None deserve it, nor can one earn it, it is a gift from GOD! The law only identifies what is sin, so that just a mirror shows us the dirt on our own faces, so also does the law show the dirt in our life!
10. What is the purpose of the law?
Romans 3:20. "Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin."
Note: The purpose of the law is to make known to humanity, what sin is! James 1:23. "For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:" Only by a mirror can we see the dirt on our face, and only by the Law can we know what sin is! When we see our sin, we know we need to pray, to repent and seek forgiveness, for even ONE sin that is against us, unforgiven, will have have us share Satan's fate!
11. If keeping the law doesn't save us, why keep it?
Hebrews 10:26. "For if we sin willfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins," John 14:15 "If ye love me, keep my commandments."
Note: Even though all have sinned, and come short of the glory that is God Romans 3:23. "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;" Jesus can come into your life, and give you victory over sin. WHY? Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me."
