LIGHTS..
from the lamps flickering in the upper room [Acts chapter 2] CONT:
Acts 2:4-6 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven. Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.
Note: "...that every man heard them speak in their own tongue" This is NOT the "Speaking in tongues, Mr Darby sputtered out beginning in 1844, the Day the World Changed"! That's all gibberish! As none can understand it, NO.... not even the speakers! Yet they do this and more deep in the Vatican, which is no more Christian than I can fly! John B.
CONT: as the disciples conversed with The Master. The questions they still asked, eve after being with Him for near 3.5 years, made it obvious that they did not have a clear understanding of His Mission on earth. They continued to cling, [Note:as did most, in the area,] to the hope that He would liberate them from the roman occupation. Recognizing their misunderstanding, Jesus tried to prepare them for th3e events that were all but upon them. He quieted their fears of the future by speaking to them of the Gift of the Holy Spirit that He and The Father would give to the world.
As One of The Members of The Godhead, The holy Spirit is a Person, { Note: sorry He is not a force as such, JW's] He had an active part in the Creation of the world {Genesis 1:2} , and since then He has been intimately involved, in the Plan of Salvation. [Note yours and mine, for He is The Channel by Whom The Father communicate to our minds... look....ignoring Him is no small matter! ]
Ephesians 4:30 "And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption."
Matthew 12:31 "Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men."
Note: all who are not forgiven, all who have not asked for forgiveness with a repented heart, are as lost as those who reject Christ!
WHAT JESUS TAUGHT.
JESUS, teaching about The Holy Spirit, is recorded in John 14, 15, and 16th chapters. He is called " 'The Spirit of Truth" ' [John 14:17], Whom The Father will send in Jesus' name [John 14:26]. He " 'will teach you all things.' " Jesus said, "and (He) will remind you of everything I have said to you' ". [Note He cannot do this of things YOU have not heard nor read, as YOU have no memory of these, for The Holy Spirit to bring from your memory banks!] [John 14:26] He cam3e specifically to testify about Jesus [John 15:26]. and because H3e is not limited by neither time3 nor space, He can represent Jesus to the world anywhere, anytime.
We tend to understand less about the The Person and the work of The Holy Spirit, than we do about The Other Members of The godhead. That's due to the fact, that His work is to make known The Father and The Son, rather than Himself!~ It is through His ministry that Holy men wrote the Bible, which bears witness to Jesus ...
2 Peter 1:21 " For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost".
He also filled the life of Jesus with power. Because of the Spirit's ministry, the Bible comes alive for us, making Jesus real, sensitizing our hearts to Jesus and equipping us to live for Him.
WHAT THE HOLY SPIRIT DOES FOR US.
Note: When a true believer says, the Bible is the Living Word, it IS The Holy Spirit within a person, that makes it so, and gives it, the word, the power to change lives of believers!
The Holy Spirit is involved in every aspect of our Christian life. When we come to God, it's because the Spirit has been working on our hearts, giving us the desire to learn about god and to live the way He desires us to. Anytime, we want to know more about the Holy Bible and what it says about God, all we have to do is ask in prayer, for the wisdom to understand, and He will guide us to the passages we should study.
NOTE: Reading is not studying!
The Spirit will impress our minds, leading us to a clear understanding of the Bible and how its lessons apply to our lives even today. Then He will give us the power to live the truths we have learned. When we feel guilty for our sins and repent of them, IT IS because the Holy Spirit has been at work, in our lives,j and minds. Every thing we know about god and Jesus we understand more clearly because of the Holy spirit, quietly and humbly, has been carrying out in our lives the work that He was sent to do!'
The Holy Spirit also strengthens the church and its members through spiritual gifts. Some of these gifts are quiet spectacular, while other are less dramatic. Yet, all of them are equally essential. Several of these spiritual gifts are mentioned in Ephesians...
Ephesians 4:11-12 " And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:...."
Note: Why should this be so?
Jeremiah 13:23 " Can the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots? then may ye also do good, that are accustomed to do evil."
NOTE: see what the "NEW" Testament Christians, miss out on?
Romans 12:5-8 "So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another. Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith; Or ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching; Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness."
1 Corinthians 12:3-11 "Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost. Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will"
.1 Corinthians 13:1" Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.
2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.
3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.
4 Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,
5 Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;
6 Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;
7 Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.
8 Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.
9 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.
10 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.
11 When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.
12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
13 And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity"
Both the Old and the New Books, speak of The Holy Spirit having an active role on both the Creation and its redemption. As THE personal Representative of Jesus, and the Father, the Spirit accomplishes in the world what Jesus would do if He were physically present today!.
