I OWE MANY THANKS TO LIBERTY MAGAZINE NOV/DEC 2013 ISSUE, AND THE AUTHOR DWAYNE LESLIE.
IMAGINE,......being hung upside down by your feet. Electric wires are tied around your ankles and you are threatened repeatedly with electrocution. In addition to this, you are repeatedly pulled from your prison cell so that police can beat your viciously.
WHY?
Because someone accused you of making inflammatory statements about their God they call Allah!
Even though your accuser later recanted his allegations, you were still "TRIED", for the crime of blasphemy, convicted, and then sentenced to life imprisonment. NOW PLEASE THINK ABOUT THAT, think of YOU spending the rest of your natural life in prison, for the crime of, 'Speaking your mind'!
It's absolutely incomprehensible, is it not? Especially for those of us privileged to live in America, where we, far too often, take our First Amendments-guaranteed fright to free-speech and freedom of religion for granted.
AS an American, Y O U can be excused for asking how someone could be imprisoned---or worse--- just for something he or she has said or written.
For anyone who is unfamiliar with the term blasphemy essentially means showing disagreement or contempt for a deity.[ {j.b.) including the commonly held ideals of and or for a deity, by a people or nation or faith]. While you'd likely offend a number of people by engaging in blasphemy, your right to do so in the U.S. is nevertheless protected by the previously mentioned First Amendment.
Yet if far too many countries, even one would be too many, blasphemy is illegal.[ {(j.b.) Who remembers the uproar over the Mohammed cartoon by S. Rushdie, and the FATWA, kill on sight order, issued by many Imams?] In many of those countries being hauled off to jail for expressing a minority view about religion is a shockingly common occurrence. And the level of n"Proof" for such a crime can be astonishingly low.
In the U. S. there's guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. In too many other nations, when it comes to blasphemy , there's guilt based on no more then if you are a member of a religious minority... such as a christian in Pakistan, or any other Muslim Nation!
Recently, the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom ( USCIRF) released a report detailing Pakistan's history of violence against religious freedom. The findings are deeply troubling... in just the past 18 months, the UASIRF documented 203 incidents of violence in the name of religion, resulting in some 1,800 casualties, and more that 700 deaths.
A recent case, involved a Seventh day Adventist {j.b. in full disclose this site project this faith's doctrines) man named Sajjad Masih. The opening illustration was actually his experience, recounted to us by his lawyer (although the alleged insults involved the prophet Mohammed) Sajjad was accused of blasphemy by authorities in Pakistan-- despite the accuser both recanting his testimony and stating that the POLICE forced him to level the allegation in the first place!!!! Sajjad Masih was convicted of blasphemy and was sentenced to life in prison. There remains ZERO evidence supporting the charges. These are greatly disturbing items, but not the most so.
Blasphemy laws themselves are the key issue. NO matter what god the Majority chooses to worship, the making of dissent by minority faiths, a criminal offense is a terrible idea, FOR ALL KINDS OF REASONS.
To suggest that ONE's god is happy to have Y O U worship him under coercion, of death , torture and or life imprisonment, ...is beyond human folly! [(j.b.) and should be beyond SANE human understanding!]
While Sajjad Masih is a deeply troubling and current example of abusive enforcement of blasphemy laws in Pakistan, it is not an isolated incident. Dwayne Leslie goes on to document 4 other cases, of the same extreme actions, that by my words, O N L Y parallel the actions we expect only from Satan and his crew ! Or is this the actual reason behind all of this?
John 15:18 "If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you."
